GENERAL MANAGER OPERATIONS
The Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku (Shire) is located in the far east of Western Australia, bordering South Australia between the Great Victoria Desert and the Gibson Desert. It is contained within the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, home to the Ngaanyatjarra people.
The Shire has recently created the position of General Manger Operations to take a hands-on role running the day-to-day operations of the local government and supporting the Community, Elected Members and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to deliver contemporary local government services to this remote region of the state.
Provision of the role will be a combination of on-site work (based in the Shire office at Warburton) and off-site work (work from home) based on roster to be developed and agreed with the CEO to support operational need.
The role is an excellent opportunity to develop and advance your career in local government, in a truly pristine and scenic part of the country that few people get to experience, and at the same time making a significant contribution to improving the wellbeing of this largely Aboriginal community.
The Shire is currently working with key stakeholder to upgrade and seal the Great Central Road (Part of the Outback Way) which in the near future will create a high standard sealed road route that can be travelled from Augusta in the far south west corner of WA, via Kata Tjuta, Uluru and onto Cairns in north east of Queensland. Once sealed, this will result in significant lifechanging opportunities for the desert communities of central Australia. The General Manager role will be pivotal in helping to shape and develop these opportunities.
The current CEO is planning to retire and wants to focus on strategic matters affecting the Shire and has developed a transition plan with the General Manager Operations role forming a key part of the plan in handing over the reigns to a new CEO when he retires.
The position is classified as Senior Officer position as defined by the Local Government Act 1995 and is offered based on an up to (5) year, performance-based contract. An attractive total remuneration package (including Superannuation) is negotiable from $170,000 - $209,000 p.a. In addition, the Shire will provide furnished housing when on the NG Lands.
